Abstract

This article was an invited contribution to a roundtable on HIV, gender, and religion in Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion. The roundtable lead-in, “Charting the Paradigm Shifts in HIV Research: The Contribution of Gender and Religion Studies," was written by Sarojini Nadar and Isabel Phiri. In my contribution to the discussion I look at the unique ways in which action research can help researchers respond to the HIV and AIDS pandemic by listening to the particular and how this listening is grounded in feminist methodologies. Other contributions to this roundtable include articles by Nyambura J. Njoroge, Margaret A. Farley, Ezra Chitando, and Dora Rudo Mbuwayesango.
